Yesterday, my mother told me that a friend told her that her son, Ian Patrick, was involved in the investigation of a shooting on Thurber Lane. Ian looks just the same as he did when I last saw him about ten years ago. As you can see from the above map, the shooting was uncomfortably close to my childhood home. After my parents move away, the neighborhood must have just gone down hill. You can see the story in the Santa Cruz Sentinel as well as a follow-up story.

Paul, Mama told me to tell you. I said we don’t actually talk much and that if she would just add it to her Google Reader Shared Items, you would get it. Since she didn’t know what I was talking about, I’ve made this post. What are blogs for, anyway?

Mullings: The Spitzer Back Story

  • Former Congresswoman and Walter Mondale’s choice for his Vice Presidential running mate in 1984, Geraldine Ferraro, pointed out in a speech that Barack Obama is Black saying: “If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position,” for which was forced to step down from the Hillary Rodham Clinton campaign for those remarks, a decision which I wholeheartedly endorse.
  • What she should have said was: “If Obama WERE a white man …”
  • It is that kind of grammatical error up with which I will not put.

Twisted at sign
I love it when a job listing includes a code snippet. This one also serves as a CAPTCHA to mask the email address!

We’re not looking for a diploma, we’re looking for a designer. We’re looking for somebody who can show us that they’ve done the work and can do it again. Whether you did it for pay, for a grade, or just for fun is of no interest to us. So don’t bother lying on your resume about your degrees. Your portfolio will tell us all we need to know. And XHTML never lies.

It’s job listings like this one that motivate me to build a portfolio for the idyllic day when I make the leap to a different employer.
