Yesterday, my mother told me that a friend told her that her son, Ian Patrick, was involved in the investigation of a shooting on Thurber Lane. Ian looks just the same as he did when I last saw him about ten years ago. As you can see from the above map, the shooting was uncomfortably close to my childhood home. After my parents move away, the neighborhood must have just gone down hill. You can see the story in the Santa Cruz Sentinel as well as a follow-up story.

Paul, Mama told me to tell you. I said we don’t actually talk much and that if she would just add it to her Google Reader Shared Items, you would get it. Since she didn’t know what I was talking about, I’ve made this post. What are blogs for, anyway?

October in September

Friday, September 28th, 2007

I’m an uncle again! My brother joins me the in the father-of-two-boys-and-one-girl club. His first daughter, October, was born just this morning. At 7 pounds, 11.6 ounces, and 20.5 inches she seems to be quite healthy! Carolyn’s sister has two daughters, but somehow it feels special to have “my own” niece, now. Paul should post more details on his blog once he gets out of the hospital, but I couldn’t wait to break the news.

Happy 25.75 BD to Paul!

Paul blowing out candles

Just twenty-five and three-quarter years ago, my darling brother Paul made his grand entry into this world. He’s not near as cute, now that he has facial hair, but here’s a picture nonetheless.

The three-quarter birthday came to mind just past midnight as I was dragging myself into bed after loads of fun with a server migration problem. Funny how the mind works around midnight.

Also, happy birthday to New Zealand as it celebrates Waitangi Day!
