Valentine’s Day History

The History of Valentine’s Day

History.com has some interesting tidbits about Valentines. The Catholic church recognizes at least three saints named Valentine or Valentinus.  All three of these guys were martyred.  I guess that portends what may happen to modern men who fail to commemorate Valentines Day.  Like most holidays, the idea behind Valentine’s Day is nice, but it really boils down to a blatant attempt to separate people from their wallets — especially men.  Strangly, 85% of the 1 billion Valentine cards sold in the U.S. are bought by women.

    Valentines is a scam.

    The End.

    “The End”?
What does your wife say? More importantly, what does your wife really think?

Sometimes it’s better to be scammed than, well, the alternative.

We didn’t do Valentines this year.
You read that right. No cards. No flowers. No chocolate. Nothing.

OK. We picked up the Carry Grant movie “To Catch a Thief” DVD for $4.99 at Wal-Mart. But that was it, and we haven’t watched it yet.

Sorry to hear you’re out a bunch of bucks, Mike!

Didn’t say I was; well maybe a few. We’re celebrating Valentine’s tonight with a couple of T-bone steaks!

Party poopers! At least get someone to watch the kids and eat your Mac ‘N’ Cheese by candle light.

  5. Paul Says:

Don’t knock the Mac ‘N’ Cheese! It’s only 29 cents a box at Aldi.
