We’re not looking for a diploma, we’re looking for a designer. We’re looking for somebody who can show us that they’ve done the work and can do it again. Whether you did it for pay, for a grade, or just for fun is of no interest to us. So don’t bother lying on your resume about your degrees. Your portfolio will tell us all we need to know. And XHTML never lies.

It’s job listings like this one that motivate me to build a portfolio for the idyllic day when I make the leap to a different employer.

This morning I showed up for work in time to watch maintenance workers finish replacing a few ceiling tiles in my office ceiling.

The real excitement started yesterday. Too bad I don’t have a camera phone! Actually it was Tuesday evening as I was leaving work late, that I drop of water fell on me. I looked up to see a wet spot in my office ceiling. This is the same spot that dripped some time ago because of an air conditioner leak in computer room above. Some one should know, I thought, so I called the tech guy who had taken care of the problem last time. He wasn’t home, so I left a message. How much condensation could come off of an air conditioner in one night? Not much, I figured. It would just drip all night. I placed my trash can under the offending spot and left. (more…)
